Kjersti VanSlyke-Briggs Named College of Education Dean

(SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY — January 30, 2025) Kjersti VanSlyke-Briggs, Ed.D. has been named founding dean of the College of Education at Empire State University. She will join SUNY Empire in June 2025.
VanSlyke-Briggs brings more than 20 years of experience in education, leadership, and innovation. As chair of secondary education and educational technology at SUNY Oneonta, she spearheaded new academic programs, strategic planning initiatives, and community partnerships.
“Dr. VanSlyke-Briggs embodies the qualities of a transformative leader,” said Empire State University Provost Rai Kathuria. “Her deep commitment to collaboration, innovation, and student success will guide the upcoming College of Education into an exciting new era of excellence. Her vision aligns perfectly with Empire State University’s mission to prepare educators for the future.”
A recognized scholar, VanSlyke-Briggs has published extensively on teaching strategies, teacher development, and education reform. She earned her Ed.D. in Educational Philosophy, Theory and Practice from Binghamton University and holds an M.S. in English education from SUNY Brockport.
